AGU Mission and History :
Composition of AGU
The AGU unites the Federations of the Asian continent in which
gymnastics is practiced according to the AGU Statutes
The AGU is formed by National Federations, consists either of affiliated
membership
AGU Objectives & Projects:
The Objectives of the AGU are:
− To govern the sport of Gymnastics in Asia.
− To promote, develop, spread and support of gymnastics
on the whole Asian Continent and all affiliated countries
according to AGU Statutes.
− To co-ordinate efforts for safe and healthy physical and
moral development in gymnastics and the practice of all
sports activities relating to it.
− To fight against all forms of doping violence and sports
injustice.
− To plan, organize and realize of the AGU events.
− To contribute and to consolidate, friendship amongst
gymnasts and Asian nations.
− To co-operate with international institutions and
organizations in particular the FIG.
The History of the AGU
OCT. 1964
At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, JPN, KOR, CHN and PHI proposed call the meeting and discussed and approved gymnastics to be official event at the Asian Games. And at same time we startedas ASIAN GYMNASTIC FEDERATION (AGF).
JUN. 1966
After the 1st Asian International Judge's Course held in Tokyo, we had the AGF Congress. Mr. Yoshihiko KURIMOTO(JPN) become the 1st President of AGU.
AUG. 1974
The AGF changed the name ASIAN GYMNASTIC CONFEDERATION (AGC)
1983
AGC decided to back to ASIAN GYMNASTIC FEDERATION (AGF).
1984
At the FIG Exective Committee approved the 4 continental Federations become under FIG.
FIG requested to them to change to Continental Union.
1985
After the request by the EC of FIG, AGF decided to change the name ASIAN GYMNASTIC UNION (AGU).
2006
Mr. A-Rahman Al-Shathri Has been elected as a President for the AGU after the General Assembly held in India.
20 August 2008:
The General Assembly has approved the New AGU Statutes which is to be applied from January 1st 2009.
